A twin-cylinder BMW adventure motorcycle under ₹5 lakh. Until 2026, that would have seemed like a fantasy. BMW Motorrad has turned it into reality with the official India launch of the all-new BMW F 450 GS — the most affordable GS in the brand’s history, and arguably the most exciting adventure bike to arrive in India this year.

Manufactured locally at TVS’s Hosur facility (the same plant that built the outgoing G 310 GS), the F 450 GS brings genuine BMW engineering — complete with Brembo brakes, a 6.5-inch TFT display, cornering ABS, and four riding modes — to a price bracket previously dominated by Royal Enfield and KTM. This guide covers everything you need to know: the full specs, variant-wise features, India pricing, and how it stacks up against its direct rivals.

What Is the BMW F 450 GS? A Quick Background

The F 450 GS is BMW Motorrad’s replacement for the long-running G 310 GS. While the 310 GS carried the GS badge, many enthusiasts felt it didn’t fully deliver on the GS promise of all-terrain capability and premium tech. The F 450 GS is BMW’s answer to that criticism — built from the ground up with a new parallel-twin engine, a new tubular steel frame, and a feature set that genuinely earns the iconic GS nameplate.

Globally unveiled on November 4, 2025, the bike was confirmed for India launch on April 23, 2026. Deliveries are expected to begin from June 2026, with bookings already open at BMW Motorrad dealerships across the country.

Engine and Performance: The Heart of the F 450 GS

The F 450 GS is powered by a brand-new 420cc parallel-twin engine — a significant step up in refinement and performance from the single-cylinder unit in the outgoing G 310 GS. The 135-degree crankshaft offset is a key engineering highlight: it gives the engine a distinctive exhaust note while simultaneously smoothing out vibration, delivering a riding experience that feels far more refined than its displacement would suggest.

With 48 HP and 43 Nm on tap, the F 450 GS is the most powerful motorcycle in its competitive set. Throttle-by-wire controls fuel delivery, enabling the multiple riding modes to work seamlessly. The 6-speed gearbox comes with Shift Assist Pro as standard on higher variants — allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts for a more relaxed highway riding experience.

The standout engine innovation, however, is the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) — a world-first for this segment. Standard on the GS Trophy variant and optional on others, the ERC is a centrifugal clutch system that automates engagement at low RPMs, making stalling virtually impossible. Critically, the clutch lever remains fully functional, so experienced riders aren’t forced to adapt. In slow traffic or technical off-road sections, the ERC makes the bike dramatically more approachable.

Design and Ergonomics

Visually, the F 450 GS draws clear inspiration from the flagship BMW R 1300 GS — sharing a similar upright stance, wide handlebars, tall windscreen, and the distinctive GS headlight signature, all scaled into a more compact and accessible package.

The ergonomics are designed for dual-purpose use. The wide handlebar offers excellent leverage whether you’re seated on the highway or standing up on a trail. The two-piece seat at 845mm is tall enough for confident off-road riding, yet BMW also offers a low seat option at around 830mm and a Rallye high seat at approximately 865mm — accommodating a wider range of rider heights.

The fuel tank design specifically allows for strong knee grip while standing — a small but important detail that makes a real difference on loose terrain. The GS Trophy variant gets the most eye-catching look with its Racing Blue Metallic paint scheme featuring red and white accents.

The F 450 GS brings a level of electronics that was once exclusive to motorcycles costing two to three times its price. Here is what comes on board:
